If you’re a conference expert headed to the NSW HR leaders summit, you’ve probably already got your tried and tested tactics at hand to get the most out of it. If you’re new to the conference world, fear not. We’ve put together four tips to help you get the most out of this great event.
1. Review The Agenda
This one is a no-brainer. Review the key topics that you would like to hear about, and plan your day around them. Make sure to consider the speaker as well as the topic. Sessions less directly related to your role can be valuable if they’re led by an industry figure you’re keen to meet.
2. Find Out Who’s Going
The people attending the summit are as important as the sessions themselves. There’s no better time to network with peers. Make the most of the delegate list & take note of who you’d love to meet while at the event. It’s also a good idea to keep track of social media hashtags, as it’s a useful tool to keep track of acquaintances and people you’d like to meet.
3. Bring The Right Equipment
Everyone knows the feeling of getting into the car and questioning whether you really turned the oven off. Conferences can be stressful at the best of times, so avoid any stress-inducing brain fades by packing ahead of time. Important equipment to remember includes:
Phone, laptop, and chargers: You’re going to spend a huge part of your day on your devices — don’t get caught with dead batteries.
Pack enough business cards: Make sure you have some on hand and a stash in your luggage. You never know how many people you’re going to meet.
4. Take Note Of Key Takeaways
There is going to be a lot of information to absorb over two days, and there’s a good chance you’ll struggle to remember it all. Following each session, write down at least three key points that stuck out to you. Collect your notes in a way that makes it easy for you to distil when you get back to the office, as it will help jog your memory and give you specific to-dos when you get back to work.
Most importantly, try your best to enjoy yourself. If you find the space in your schedule, make sure to come and say hi to the HROnboard team. We look forward to seeing you there!
